Friday night in Krakow

Aloha Friday, May 13th

The last two days, we’ve spent quite a bit of time on the PKP, the Polish railway. Thursday was 6+ rather quiet hours from Gdansk to Warsaw. Today’s trip from Warsaw to Krakow was a bit more of an issue. The problem was, we got a little stupid on a number of fronts. This is all stuff we know or should have known, but add a few oversights up and you’ve got an issue. Root causes were we forgot it was Friday (busy travel day); we failed to make a reservation and we traveled late in the afternoon. Arriving at the station we found the 16:00 train completely full with the next option, a train at 18:00, was second class only. The second class part means no reserved space and that was an issue because the train was PACKED.  The result was we stood up for the three and a half hour ride to Krakow. Our spot was a delightful little patch between WC and the entry door at the very rear of the last car. We made it though, our Krakow hotel is lovely and if this is the train deal is the worst hiccup we run into, I’d say we’re in pretty good shape.

Lots to do here, but we also need to fit in time for chores like laundry and maybe get a few pictures posted. Hard to believe we’re starting week two of our journey.
